THE TWIST

There will be a panel of four "judges" each of which will be an industry-renowned record producer with a well-known track record having produced familiar acts/songs.

Each of the four producer/mentor/judges will be a successful producer with a high-profile track record of hit songs — but with a clever twist:

  • One will be famous for producing acts/hits from the 70's.
  • One will be famous for producing acts/hits from the 80's.
  • One will be famous for producing acts/hits from the 90's.
  • One will be famous for producing acts/hits from the 2000's.
The judges will compete against each other in the sense that they will interact with each other as each episode introduces their next song from their selected artist. In this way, there will be an added dramatic effect among not only the artists but also the producer/judges.

Add the Element of Surprise...

  1. "The Old Switch-a-Roo"
Once we get to the point in the show where we have whittled down to the four finalists having completed the recording of their first of four songs, we ask America to VOTE: Would you like to see a contestant SWITCH PRODUCERS? Let America Vote and some may change and some may remain -- depending on how the votes tally out. This adds additional audience involvement resulting in more interest on the part of the viewers (and added revenue in terms of call ins!)
  2. "The Throw-Down"
As the four judges will be competing against each other, let them have at it! In other words, let's say one judge feels they could have done a better job mixing a particular song from another judge. So Producer #1 (let's say famous record producer Rick Rubin) might say to Producer #2 (Let's say famous record producer Quincy Jones) "Quincy, I love you man, but, THAT MIX SUCKS! I think I can do a better job of mixing that song!" And they have the option to take another shot at re-mixing the song. Maybe we put a limit on how much they can change e.g. a time limit and/or a limit to the number of tracks/instruments they can add/change. Then... America decides which is the better mix of the two by the greater number of downloads for either mix.

And Think of the Stories They Can Tell...

Add to that the interplay between successful producers spanning decades of artists and hits. Just imagine the stories these producers will be able to serve up about about well-known hits and artists of the last 40+ years!
